Anu Vaidyanathan is one of the first Indian women to debut a comedy hour at the fringe with a whole stand-up comedy hour. She played at the Underbelly, which is a curated venue, where Fleabag made her debut. Her show has had very positive audience reviews and its highest footfall was in the third week, despite school closures for summer mostly due to strong word of mouth. This show has now been programmed around the world including off-Broadway in New York and major theatres around the UK.

In addition, last year, Anu performed to packed houses in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, London, and some other smaller clubs in (Budapest, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Madrid). She has shared the stage with renowned named such as Michelle Wolf, Janine Harouni, Erika Ehler, and Lucy Pohl with TV/stage/film credits in London/USA.

On the appeal of live comedy, Anu says: “I believe in structure and understanding how much you can push your material. It frees me – I can play and explore how I’m going to say it. Last year the experience of the Edinburgh Fringe was a really wonderful way to directly communicate with an audience. The audience came from all parts of the world, and I was very surprised that both men and women related to different parts of the same hour.”

Tickets for the Indian tour will go on sale in the first fortnight of January.
