Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Labor & Employment Shri Bhupendra Yadav on Friday launched the National Transit Pass System (NTPS) across India to facilitate seamless transit of timber, bamboo and other forest produce across the country. At present, transit permits for transportation of timber and forest produce are issued based on state specific transit rules. NTPS is envisioned as a “One Nation-One Pass” system that will enable seamless transit across the country. This initiative will streamline the issuance of timber transit permits by providing an integrated, online mode for tree growers and farmers involved in agroforestry across the country, thereby facilitating ease of doing business.

To create awareness and demonstrate the applicability and ease of use of NTPS, he flagged off special all India vehicles carrying forest produce. Two vehicles carrying timber and other forest produce from Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir were flagged off and are bound for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The QR coded transit permit generated under NTPS will allow check gates in different states to verify the validity of the permit and allow seamless transit. He said NTPS will help strengthen the journey towards greater transparency.
