Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder & Chairman, Aster DM Healthcare
Dr. Azad Moopen began his journey as an entrepreneur from a single doctor clinic in Dubai in 1987. Over the past 38 years, Aster DM Healthcare has grown into a global healthcare conglomerate spread across seven countries, including India. Guided by his mission to provide quality healthcare at affordable costs at the door-steps of people, Aster DM Healthcare is now an integrated healthcare service organization that provides the complete circle of care to people through its world-class network of hospitals, clinics and pharmacies, providing primary to quaternary care to all segments of the population. The company is one of the largest integrated healthcare service providers in GCC and India.
In 2018, Aster DM Healthcare reached a defining moment in its journey by going public. This was a testament to the trust and confidence that patients, employees, and stakeholders had placed in Aster. The IPO marked the stepping stone towards greater aspirations.
Then in 2023, under the aegis of Dr. Moopen, Aster DM Healthcare achieved yet another milestone of segregating Aster’s GCC and India businesses. This strategic decision was driven by the realization that each geography presented unique challenges and opportunities. By separating the two entities, Aster unlocked value for each business in their respective regions, allowing for tailor-made strategies and resources to be used more effectively. The move strengthened Aster’s position in the market and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services in both regions.
Aster DM Healthcare which had adopted the brownfield route to expand in India, postsegregation saw an opportunity to merge with Blackstone-backed Quality Care Ltdpositioning the merged entity Aster DM Quality Care Ltd as one of the top three hospital chains in India with a combined network of 38 hospitals and 10,150+ beds across 27 cities.
