In a significant humanitarian healthcare initiative, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force have launched the Mega Advanced Surgical Eye Camp, ‘Operation DRISHTI’, at Military Hospital Namkum in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The camp, being held from June 15 to 19, aims to restore vision and improve the quality of life of more than 200 beneficiaries through free advanced eye surgeries.

Led by Brigadier Dr. Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Head of Ophthalmology at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, the specialist medical team is performing advanced procedures including cataract surgery through phacoemulsification, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and Anti-VEGF intravitreal injections for retinal disorders. Comprehensive screening is being conducted for ex-servicemen, serving dependents, and underprivileged civilians.

To support the mission, the Indian Air Force has airlifted state-of-the-art medical equipment to Ranchi, enabling the delivery of specialized ophthalmic care. Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, described the initiative as a reflection of the Armed Forces’ commitment to both national security and social welfare.

Operation DRISHTI is a flagship outreach programme that has previously conducted advanced eye camps in remote regions including Leh, Lakshadweep, Bhuj and Bagdogra, extending specialized eye care services to underserved communities across the country.
