On World Nature Conservation Day, the logistics sector finds itself at the forefront of the global mission to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change. As a significant contributor to Scope3 emissions, particularly in transportation and distribution networks, the industry recognizes the pressing need to address its environmental impact. To tackle these challenges, the logistics sector is proactively adopting data-driven solutions and embracing technological advancements.

Logistics contributes significantly to the Scope3 emissions in the form of “foot print to serve” in the transportation and distribution networks. One of the major hurdles in India being low to no control on the transportation value chains and hence an inherent inability to take positive actions for effective abatement of emissions. The supply chain emissions are 11.4 times that of emissions from operations and as per Govt reports,  ~3% of the commercial vehicle population contributes to ~34% of the CO2 emissions and ~54% of the PM emissions. As our freight movement pipeline is powered by diesel as a major power source, coupled with the average older fleet along with sub-optimal infrastructure translates into higher associated emission foot-print for every goods we consume today.

Mr. Nitish Rai, CEO and Co-Founder, FreightFox says: “We cannot consume our way to a sustainable future. With our aspirations to grow and scale as individuals, society and industry we keep on consuming the resources. We have to break this by leveraging data and technology in a way that we grow and scale while conserving the resources.

At FreightFox, we are committed to empower and deliver visibility and actionable insights on Scope3 emissions from the transportation and distribution value chains to manufacturing enterprises and the strategies to effectively abate these emissions through a single data driven platform. We have partnered with the government’s Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) to be in the forefront of data collaboration to deliver for our better future and the earth we aspire to leave for our coming generations.

We call upon all the manufacturers to at least take the first step towards the objective by gaining insights and visibility of emissions from their transportation and distribution value chains. Let us take a pledge together that this day next year we would have established a quantitative baseline of our Scope3 emissions.”

In the logistics industry, commitment to sustainability goes beyond mere words; it is deeply ingrained in the way companies operate. Cleaner technology, effective route planning, sustainable packaging, and improved waste management are actively promoted to minimize the ecological footprint. Leading this shift towards sustainability, the industry fosters an eco-friendly supply chain that connects nations and nurtures our beautiful planet for future generations.
